For more than 20 years, the mission of FSP has been to provide incoming freshmen with tools to facilitate a successful transition into college life.

Benefits of FSP

Studies have shown that students participating in FSP have higher retention rates, lower academic probation rates, and higher GPAs than do their non-participating peers. Beyond statistics, however, students in the program demonstrate that they have adjusted to university life, bonded with many peers and at least one mentor, and have a generally positive outlook on academic life.
FSP learning communities are designed to

  • connect you to a small support group of your peers,
  • give you a faculty mentor,
  • allow you to make a commitment to your own success,
  • Offer a small college classroom on a large university campus,
  • introduce you to the culture of SDSU,
  • provide you with tools for ongoing academic achievements

Instead of feeling overwhelmed as you make the transition from high school to the university, you can benefit from SDSU’s large campus amenities while having a small college experience
