University Seminar

This one-unit course provides students with an opportunity to discover the intellectual traditions, attitudes, and skills which characterize the university experience at a major comprehensive university. The University Seminar also introduces students to important resources on campus. The instructor of the course establishes a mentoring relationship with students. Each class is comprised of 10-15 students.

University Seminar classes are taught by SDSU faculty and staff.

  • Make friends and form study groups with other first-year students
  • Experience a small college class on a large university
  • Cultivate a personal relationship with a mentor-teacher who can help solve any issues that may arise
  • Become familiar with campus life and resources
  • Develop important strategies for personal and academic success
  • Discuss crucial decisions including career direction and choice of major

University Seminar is included in all Learning Communities.

Residential Learning Communities

Research shows that students in living-learning communities . . .
•           Consistently achieve higher grade point averages
•           Are less likely to be on academic probation
•           Are more likely to return for their second year

The environment is fun and supportive, a place where students from diverse backgrounds explore personal interests while achieving academic success. Students encourage each other to succeed as they share experiences in and out of the classroom.  Living Learning Communities provide the opportunity to further campus involvement, leadership development, and academic achievement.
