University Honors Program Study Abroad
Requirement
The University Honors Program is dedicated to serving the international interests of the university and the nation, and to preparing its students for the global challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century. International education and international exchanges are fundamental aspects of this academic commitment. All students wishing to graduate in the University Honors Program (UHP) are required to complete an approved study abroad program.
Learning Outcomes
Through a well-planned study abroad experience, you will be able to:
- explore the relationship between the academic subjects you study and the real world
- enhance your critical thinking and decision-making skills
- gain an international perspective on your major and career
- explore international opportunities after graduation
- gain self-confidence
- travel independently
- learn more about yourself, your own culture, and your place in the world
- learn about your host country’s culture
- see things from another’s perspective
- develop increased flexibility and improve your ability to handle ambiguous situations
- choose to continue engaging with the global community after you return home
- learn about world conditions and global trends and how those relate to what is happening at home
- explore the nature of culture and how it affects the way people think and behave

Study Abroad Advising
Karey Sabol is the study abroad advisor for students in the University Honors Program, and can help you research program options, timing, coursework abroad, and scholarships to make your study abroad plans a reality. She is generally available to meet with students by appointment, between the hours of 9:00 am-4:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Contact her to schedule an appointment.
Study Abroad Scholarship
The UHP is committed to working with students to find a study abroad option to fit their budgets. In addition, the University Honors Program offers a Study Abroad Scholarship. This scholarship is competitive and students applying for it should already be accepted into a SDSU-approved study abroad program.
